Whale watching tours are natural events that cannot be controlled. Humpback whales arrive in the Panamanian Pacific between the months of July and September to have their calves and reproduce. They migrate to these waters because there is no presence of orcas, their largest natural predator. Generally, groups of males are seen chasing a female, which is usually the largest in the group.
Best Places to Watch Whales Whales are most likely to be observed in the Pearl Archipelago, between Contadora Island, Bartolomé Island and Saboga Island.

Start Time: Check-in at 6:15 am at the JW Marriott building marina (former Trump building)
Departure: 6:45 am towards the Pearl Archipelago
Duration: 8 hours, returning at approximately 3:00 pm
Itinerary:
- 1-hour tour in search of whales upon reaching the archipelago
- Stop at Contadora Island (the specific beach varies depending on the tide: Playa Larga, Playa Galeón or Cacique Beach)
Recommendations: Due to the variability of the tides, we recommend bringing food or snacks in case the stop is on a beach without restaurants. They can carry a hand-held cooler that can be placed on their knees and a carry-on suitcase. Large coolers, large suitcases, backpacking backpacks or travel suitcases with wheels are not permitted.
